Three Common Myths About Manufacturing in the United States

We list and debunk 3 common myths about manufacturing in the United States, such as the number of jobs it creates and the quality of products made here.

American manufacturing has a number of myths surrounding it. Apparently, most people think of exhausted workers in dangerous, rundown warehouses creating products that may or may not pass their quality checks. Thankfully, this is not the case.  Here at I.B. Moore, we know how important manufacturing is to our country, and we want to take the time to talk about 3 common myths about manufacturing in the United States.

  1. Myth – Manufacturing doesn’t create many jobs in the United States. This really couldn’t be further from the truth. As of early 2017, manufacturing was one of America’s largest job markets, employing approx. 12.4 million people. Manufacturing companies require so many different people to keep them running in a variety of capacities including administrative and trade, they almost always have job openings.
  2. Myth – Manufacturing is too dangerous. As with any industry, there’s always going to be some risk. However, most American manufacturing companies, including I.B. Moore use new, safe production techniques to make sure our employees are safe and healthy. There are also several government organizations (OSHA, for example) in place to ensure that working conditions are safe.
  3. Myth – Human workers are being replaced by robots. As technology gets more and more advanced, it makes sense why people think that robots are going to take over the jobs of humans. And while manufacturing companies are employing new technology whenever possible, that doesn’t mean we won’t still need human workers. Those 12.4 million employees we mentioned earlier – that number is expected to increase over the next few months and years.

As you can see, the manufacturing industry has a lot to offer the United States, and it’s a much safer and better place than it once was. At I.B.
